The purpose of this paper is to enhance understanding of narrative inquiry in the field of educational research by showing how three different voices are dynamically inter-related in narrative texts. Reviewing related literature in the broader field of education, the study investigates the voice of the researcher who composes a narrative text, that of the participant who provides sources for the text, and that of the reader who brings the text to life by recreating the meaning of the text. The author suggests broader application of narrative inquiry in the field of EFL research and hopes that this survey will provide some direction for other EFL researchers who plan to construct narrative studies in the near future.
