This study aims to examine how the teaching of novice English teachers was developed through a mentorship scheme with focus on storytelling. Nine mentees and one mentor were involved in the project. The data about the process of teacher development was gathered using retrospective techniques, questionnaire and observation. The analysis of the qualitative and quantitative data shows that the mentees" professional development has brought about in areas such as teaching methodologies, reflective teaching, attitudes, beliefs and self-confidence. It was found that the improvement of teaching had a beneficial influence on their students" learning. The analysis of the mentor"s diary reveals that the mentor teacher saw her professional development further through self-appraisal during the project. The findings suggest that the mentor play a significant role in novice teachers" pursuing their professional development. Some implications can be drawn for induction programs for novice teachers, pre- and in-service teacher training, and mentor training.
