The goal of the Extracurricular English class in the elementary school is to provide opportunities to practice English and to supplement the regular English curriculum. Despite the importance of the extracurricular class, there has been a decrease in the number of students over the recent years. It should be noted that the extracurricular program has not been adequately examined in terms of its content and effects. The present study therefore aims to look into the current status of the extracurricular English class by investigating the perceptions of students, teachers, and parents. For this purpose, a survey was conducted to 20 English teachers, 103 parents, and 140 students who were participating in the extracurricular class at the time of the research. The results showed that the three groups were generally positive about the effect of the extracurricular English class but pointed out the problem of large, mixed-level class. The teachers had a very limited or no contact with the English teacher of the regular English class and thus the extracurricular class was left to the individual teachers without systematic support and feedback. The findings suggest that consistent effort is needed to link the regular and extracurricular English curricula for the fruitful outcome of English education in the elementary school.
