사회경제적 여건에 따른 학업성취 불균등도 평가

Inequalities in Student"s Academic Achievement

&nbsp;&nbsp;가정의 경제적 여건을 비롯한 가정 배경에 따라 학업성취의 차이가 존재한다고 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 한국교육고용패널(Korea Education and Employment Panel) 1차년도 자료를 이용하여 학업성취의 불균등을 추정하였다. 학업성취 지표는 1) 석차백분율 2) 우수과목 혹은 부진과목의 개수로 재구성하였다. 학업성취의 총 불균등은 개인적 특성을 반영하지 않은 지니계수로, 경제적 여건의 차이를 고려한 학업성취 불균등은 집중지수로 측정하였다. 경제적 순위는 ①담임이 평가한 경제적 수준 ②학생의 가정생활 만족도, ③경제적 형편에 대한 학생의 고민,④월평균 소득의 순서로 정하였다.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;석차백분율(작을수록 우수한 성적을 뜻함, Do)에 대한 총 불균등은 0.327(인문계), 0.321(실업계), 0.331(중등)이었으며, 경제적 여건을 고려한 불균등은 -0.059(인문), -0.037(실업), -0.124(중등) 으로 추정되었다. 모든 학교급에 학업성취의 불균등이 존재할 뿐 아니라, 경제적 형편이 하위에 속하는 학생들에게 학업부진이 집중되는 경향을 확인하였다. 경제적 여건에 따른 불균등은 고등학교에 비해 중학교에서 크게 나타났다.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;학업성취와 관련이 있는 여러 요소들의 상대적 중요성을 평가하고, 불균등에 대한 참고 값을 설정하기 위한 추가적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 여겨진다.

In this study. inequalities in student&quot;s achievements were examined by Gini coefficients (total inequality) and Concentration indexes (income related inequality). Student&quot;s academic performances were represented by student percentiles (relative ranks) and composite indexes re-constructed from categorical evaluations on individual courses taken by students. Economic ranks of each student were based on teacher&quot;s observation. student&quot;s satisfaction on household life. student&quot;s concerns on economic status and monthly household income.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;Total inequalities in academic percentile were 0.327, 0.321 and 0.331 and income related inequalities were -0.059, -0.037 and -0.124 for general high school, vocational school and middle school. respectively. Hence, there is a tendency for academic achievement disfavor economically disadvantaged group of students. Inequality in middle school was larger than that of high school.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;Further studies would be necessary to establish reference value in achievement inequalities and decompose them into contributing factors such as individual and household characteristics.
