만학도의 대학생활 경험에 대한 질적 연구

Qualitative research on the experiences of campus life for adult learners

  본 연구는 4년제 대학에 재학 중인 만학도가 어떠한 대학생활을 경험하는지에 대해 알아보기 위해 인터뷰 방법을 통해 13명의 만학도의 경험을 탐색하고 근거이론에 따라 분석하였다. 개방코딩결과 53개의 하위범주와 18개의 상위범주로 범주화 되었으며 축코딩 결과 대학생활을 중심현상으로 보고 대학진학동기에 해당하는 인과적 조건, 진학을 가능하게 하는 상황에 해당하는 맥락적 조건, 대학생활에 도움이 되고 저해되는 상호작용, 학습의 성과와 학습자 변화로 이어지는 결과로 대학생활 모형이 확인되었다. 선택코딩의 결과 만학도의 대학생활 경험 유형이 자기실현형, 전문성 향상형, 대학생활 만족형으로 분류되었다. 자기실현형은 대학생활을 통해 자신의 가능성을 확인하고 새로운 진로를 개척하는 유형이며, 전문성 향상형은 대학생활을 통해 자신의 전문성을 신장하여 직장에서 자신의 능력을 발휘하는 유형이고 대학생활 만족형은 대학생활 자체를 즐기면서 대학생활을 누리는 유형으로 드러났다. 이러한 결과는 만학도들이 대학의 일원으로서 자신의 성장과정을 긍정적으로 경험하고 있음을 의미하며 이들의 성공적인 대학적응을 위해 다양한 서비스와 상담이 필요성을 제기하였다.

  This study was to identify the experiences of campus life for adult learners in university. Interview method was conducted with 13 adult learners and grounded theory was used for data analysis. 53 low rank and 18 high rank categories were classified as the result of open coding, and campus life as key phenomena was shown with the result of axial coding. The model for experiences of campus life was shown with the conditions such as cause & effect in university entrance motivation, the interconnection in the possibility of university entrance, facilitation & hinderance interaction in campus life, and learning performance and learners" change. As the major research findings, the types of experiences of campus life for adult learners were classified into self-actualization, speciality development, and campus life satisfaction with the result of selective coding. The type of self-actualization showed adult learners identify self-possibility through campus life, the type of speciality development indicated adult learners try to expand self speciality through campus life and utilize their competencies at the workplace. The type of campus life satisfaction described adult learners enjoys campus life with experiences. In conclusion, adult learners in the university had positive experiences for the growth process of campus life. This study suggests that services and counseling are needed to the adult learner"s successful campus life.
