The Meaning of Docents" Experiences as Adult Learners in a Museum

  이 논문은 박물관 전시실에서 해설 자원봉사 활동을 하고 있는 도슨트(docent)의 교수자 및 학습자로서의 경험을 살펴보고, 그 경험의 본질적인 의미가 무엇인가를 탐색하는 것에 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 참여자의 경험에 초점을 맞춘 현상학적 방법으로 연구를 진행하였고, 인터뷰를 통해 자료를 수집하였으며, 현상학적 분석 방법을 통해 자료를 분석 및 해석하였다. 그 결과 드러난 도슨트 활동의 경험의미는 ‘관람객과의 일체감을 통한 보람의 시간’과 ‘자기주도적인 학습을 통한 끊임없는 지적추구에서 얻는 만족’, ‘소속감과 자신감, 그리고 자신의 삶에 대한 성장 욕구’였다. 이를 통해 도슨트 경험이 갖는 본질적인 의미를 ‘끊임없는 학습을 통한 자기성장’으로 도출하였다.

&nbsp;&nbsp;The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of museum docents who have participated in volunteering activities and to figure out the core of essence in their experiences. In doing this, the phenomenological method has been adopted in which the participants&quot; experiences were focused and the data was gathered through interviewing them. For the data analysis, Colaizzi, Giorgi, and Van Kaam&quot;s phenomenological method was taken.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;The findings regarding the meanings of docents&quot; experiences are the following:<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;1. Strong sense of satisfaction from their steady pursuit for knowledge throughout the self-directed learning<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;2. The fruitful time with audiences in a sense of oneness<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;3. self-confidence, a sense of belonging and a desire for self-development <BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;With the findings, the author suggests that the core of essence in docents&quot; experiences is their own growth in both intellectual and emotional senses throughout their steady learning.
