Married Men and Women"s Relationship with Spouse and Children and Health: A Gender Difference

  이 연구는 배우자 및 자녀와의 관계가 건강에 미치는 영향을 다룬다. 배우자와 자녀와의 관계는 부정적 관계와 긍정적 관계가 있다. 이 연구는 부정적 관계로서 배우자 및 자녀와의 역할긴장, 그리고 긍정적 관계로서 배우자 및 자녀의 사회지지가 신체건강 및 정신건강에 미치는 영향을 살펴본다. 특별히 이 연구는 역할긴장과 사회지지의 영향이 남녀에 따라 어떻게 다른지의 성별 차이의 검증에 관심을 갖는다. 아울러 이 연구는 사회배경변인과 생활사건의 영향이 이들 배우자 및 자녀와의 관계 변인들에 의해 매개되는지를 다룰 것이다. 2004년도 서울을 포함한 7개 광역시의 기혼남녀 1,837명을 대상으로 조사한 결과, 배우자 및 자녀와의 역할긴장과 사회지지의 건강에 대한 영향력은 남녀에 따라 다르다는 것을 발견했다. 남성의 경우는 자녀와의 긴장이 건강에 부정적이고, 배우자의 지지가 건강에 긍정적이었으나, 여성의 경우는 반대로, 배우자와의 긴장이 건강에 부정적이고, 자녀의 지지가 건강에 긍정적이었음을 제시했다. 사회배경변인 및 생활사건의 건강에 대한 영향은 배우자 및 자녀와의 역할긴장과 사회지지에 매개되지 않고 직접적이었다.

  This study tests the influence of the relationships with spouse and children on health. There are both negative relationship and positive relationships with spouse and children. This study examines the effect of role strain with spouse and children and their social support on both physical and mental health. This study especially examines whether the effects of role strain and support on health are different across gender. This study also tests the effect of social background and negative life events on health and whether their effects are mediated by relationships with spouse and children. Using data from 1,837 married men and women in 7 metropolitan cities, 2004, this study reveals that the effects of role strain and support with spouse and children on health are different across men and women. For men, role strain with children has a negative influence on health and social support of spouse has a positive influence on health. In contrast, for women, role strain with spouse has a negative influence on health and social support of children has a positive influence on health. However, results show that the effect of social background and negative life events on health are not mediated by role strain and social support factors and they have direct independent effect.
