An Aspect of Transformation and Significance of Japga in the Early 20th Century: Nanbong-ga Class Works

&nbsp;&nbsp;This paper aims to grasp an aspect of transformation and significance of Japga, focused on Nanbong-ga class works, because of the introduction of a new medium in the early 20th century. Japga became popular in the early 20th century, which was connected with collection of Japga and phonograph records that was introduced as a new medium at that time. In this background, Nanbong-ga secured continuous popularity and it showed the best frequency in both collection of Japga and phonograph records.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;This paper considers the motive of continuous popularity which Nanbong-ga showed in both collection of Japga and phonograph records. This popularity was caused by a formal characteristic, yujeol, and by chattering which made of light topics like love and enjoyment without related factors.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;Secondly, this paper examined the significance of Nanbong-ga by searching the aspect of transformation in both collection of Japga and phonograph records, paying attention to Nanbong-ga had best frequency in both. Consequently saying the fact, Nanbong-ga became to lose indecent nature and openness which is the characteristic of that genre, and it headed toward the systematization of chattering and the unification of emotion, by recording process. The aspect of transformation of japga which was from the connection with records, modern medium, means that japga lost its proper nature, and it became standardized. Moreover, it means an indication of decline of japga which was dismissed by western popular songs.
