〈Gu-un-mong〉 is the work intending to acquire higher level"s life through dialectical unity of Soeng-jin(性眞)"s previous life(sacred world) and Yang, so-yu(楊少游)’ present life(mundane world). Though Yang, so-yu’ present life has the nature of the pain of transmigration of souls, the real life of Yang, so-yu can be understood that it has the characteristic of the satisfaction of a sexual desire rather than a pain of transmigration of souls. It is this reason that 〈Gu-un-mong〉 concerns and focuses on the presentation of Yang, so-yu"s joyful life with the eight beautiful women(eight fairies).
For an entire life as a Buddhist, Soeng-jin"s worldly passion, in other word, the desire of sexual, honorable and wealthy life must be satisfied. If he did not throw the mundane desire off, he could not walk on the way of a seeker after truth. It is this reason that Yang, so-yu lives the life of the satisfaction of a sexual desire thoroughly and shows the characteristic life indulged in eight beautiful women. 〈Gu-un-mong〉 has the nature of novel of sexual love in this viewpoint.
According to this intention of 〈Gu-un-mong〉, Yang, seo-yu"s life was blessed with happy home life with eight beautiful women and he lived in a honor and wealth in this world. But it was not basic intention of 〈Gu-un-mong〉 that Yang, so-yu lives happy home life with eight women and in a honor and wealth in this world. So doubts Yang, so-yu, in the end of the 〈Gu-un-mong〉, about the happy home life and honorable and wealthy life.
On moonlight day in autumn after amusement with eight wives, Yang, so-yu realized that the honorable and wealthy life in this world is very solitary, human life is very transient, and so must man overcome the transient human life and get the immortality of Buddhism. This realization is more valuable from the viewpoint that it acquired after satisfaction of the mundane desire and was the result of self-realization, not any other"s enforcement. In this respects, the real meaning of 〈Gu-un-mong〉 is to devote himself to buddhism through the satisfaction of a young buddhist"s sexual desire(desire of honor and wealth is secondary meaning.) and by throwing the mundane desire off.
