In order to provide for the International Electronic Contracting, the United Nations Convention on the Use of Electronic Communications in International Contracts was prepared by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law Working Group Ⅳ (Electronic Commerce) and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on November 23, 2005, at its sixtieth session.<BR> The purpose of this paper is to understand the scope of application of the "United Nations Convention on the Use of Electronic Communications in International Contracts", such as the purpose of establishment, substantive and geographic scope of application, relationship to private international law and "civil" or "commercial" character.<BR> Under the situation of global e-Commerce, this Convention has established the primary purposes to facilitate international trade by removing possible legal obstacles or uncertainty concerning the use of electronic communications in connection with the formation or performance of contracts concluded between parties located in different countries.
