A Study on Legal Issues for Activation of Electronic Bill of Lading in Korea

&nbsp;&nbsp;Recently, there have occurred circumstances in which bills of lading have arrived later than the goods shipped, particularly with the introduction of high-speed cargo vessels, thus causing a delay in delivery of the goods at the place of disembarkation. This situation is referred to as the crisis of bill of lading. There are many ways to break a &quot;the crisis of bill of lading&quot; like Sea Waybill, Letter of Guarantee. They are unsuccessful because of technical and legal problems. Electronic bill of lading can help overcome such limitations of an ordinary bill of lading.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;Revised Maritime Law in Korea Commercial Code provides that Title Registry, endorsement, procedure of receiving delivery and so on, but other necessary matters shall be prescribed by President. A purpose of this study is not only understand the crisis of bill of lading and the Necessity of Introduction of Electronic of Bill of Lading but recently Legal Issues for Activation of Electronic Bill of Lading in Korea.
