The Sensory Order and Hayek"s Methodology

  하이에크의 『감각적 질서』는 심리학 차원의 마음이론과 철학의 심신문제 영역에 속하는 연구이다. 이 책에서 하이에크는 연결주의 마음이론을 펼치고, 심신문제에 있어서는 자연주의적 입장에서 접근하나 ‘설명의 절대적 한계’ 등의 이유로 인해 이 입장을 끝까지 밀고나가지 못하고 결과적으로는 ‘실용적 이원론’이라는 애매한 절충에 그치고 만다. 이 점이 하이에크 해석 상의 느슨함과 비일관성을 허용하는 일종의 취약점이 된다.

  Hayek‘s Sensory Order is a contribution both to psychological cognitive theory and the philosophical mind-body problem. In this study, Hayek develops a connectionist mind theory and his philosophical position in the mind-body problem follows naturalist tradition. However, "the absolute limit of explanation" argument and some other considerations prevent him maintaining his initial naturalist position, which leads eventually to an eclectic "practical dualism" position. This practical dualism allows many loose interpretations of Hayek.
