This paper aims at proving the characteristic of Chan-jan"s thoughts in Chih-kuan ta-i(止觀大意). It is divided two part. At first, Chan-jan says that yuan-tun chih-kuan(圓頓止觀) and Fa-hua ching (法華經) are the same. So he suggests that yuan-tun chih-kuan(圓頓止觀) is an alias of fa-hua san-mei(法華三昧). Accoding to Chan-jan, the theory and practice are completed by fa-hua san-mei(法華三昧). This point is appeared concretely in that Chan-jan connects shih-sheng kuan-fa(十乘觀法) and Fa-hua ching(法華經).<BR> At second, Chan-jan presents a new viewpoint hsing-ch? shou (性具說). Chan-jan divides hsin(心) and hsing(性). Hsin has three thousand possibility and hsing has san-ti(三諦). This san-ti(三諦) in hsing is appeared through san-kuan(三觀).
