The Daejeon-Chungnam writing is part of the Korean regional literature. Its literary trends can be identified as follows:
First, the Daejeon-Chungnam literary circles have been formed since the restoration of independence, 1945. Several writers of the circles would publish works in their own voices before the year, but many had a tendency to write works under the shade of the Seoul-Kyungki literary world.
Second, lyricism prevailed from 1945 to 1970s. Even after 1980s, some writers tended to prefer a lyrical voice, but they were not influential.
Third, writers showed their tendency to write realistic works during 1980s. The writers joined the coterie Literature of Living pursued realism energetically, which originated from those of Chae-ho Shin(신채호) and Dong-yup Shin(신동엽). The young writers, who belonged to the Daejeon-Chungnam branch of the National Writers" Association, had power over the field of literature, and the realistic writing became influential.
Fourth, modernism has been insignificant though it appeared at the formative period of the Daejeon-Chungnam literary world. Its writers did not produce much work, but they enriched the literary circles by awakening people to an existential sense of life.
Fifth, the Daejeon-Chungnam literary world tended to show an inclination toward poetry rather than criticism, fiction and drama. This tendency showed a remarkable difference of the Daejeon-Chungnam literary world from other regional literary worlds in which the tendency was also found.
