Marriage-based Immigrant Women in Chungbuk Province and Their Marital Satisfaction

  This study explored the characteristics and marital satisfaction of marriage-based immigrant women with young children in Chungbuk Province. Data were collected from 150 inter-married women with questionnaires translated into English, Japanese and Chinese. Women with southeast Asian origin were 37.7%, Japanese, 34.2% and Chinese origin was 17.5%. 55.3% lived in rural area, 32.5% lived with in-laws. Most of women(79.8%) were full-time housewives, 84% were under the poverty line. Their overall marital satisfaction was above average, 22.7% of variance explained by couple cohesiveness, parenting stress and fluency of Korean language. Implications for policy making and field services were discussed.
