The purpose of this study is to see the effects of mothers and teachers" reasoning guidance on moral emotion of young children and moral behavior as well. The participants of this study were 299 mothers and 65 teachers of three years old to five-year-old children from seventeen kindergartens and two edu-care center which were located in Chungbuk province. Data were analyzed by the frequency, percentage, Cronbach"s α coefficient, ANOVA, Scheffe, correlation, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS program.
The results of this research were as follows:
First, there were significant differences in moral emotion and moral behavior across children"s and mothers" general background; the girls were better than the boys in the empathy, the apology, and the compensation. Also, five-year-old children were better than three-year-old children at self-regulation. The children of working mothers were better at self-regulation. The children whose mothers were over the age of 35 were better at the making compensation than the children whose mothers were under the age of 35.
Second, children showed a significant difference between the moral emotion and behavior. Namely, children were much better at the moral behavior such as self-regulation and the compensation rather than the moral emotion, that is, the empathy and the apology.
Third, children"s gender, mothers" employment status, and mothers" reasoning guidance significantly influenced on children"s empathy of moral emotion. It also revealed that mothers" reasoning guidance had the greatest influence on it. Mothers" reasoning guidance significantly influenced on the apology of moral emotions; the more reasoning mothers gave, the higher the degree of apology children showed.
Fourth, the gender, the age of children, and the mothers" reasoning guidance came out significant variables for children"s self-regulation of moral behavior. Girls were better at self-regulation than boys, and higher age of children and more mothers" reasoning guidance led children to reach higher degree of self-regulation. In addition, age of mothers, the mothers" employment and the mothers" reasoning guidance significantly affected the compensation of children moral behaviors. This meant that the children who had older mothers or working mothers, and received more reasoning guidance from mothers made more compensation for mistakes.
