제조업 다양성이 광역경제권의 성장 및 안정에 미치는 영향

The Effect of Industrial Diversity on the Economic Growth and the Instability of the Wide-Economic Zones in Korea

&nbsp;&nbsp;본 연구는 5개 광역경제권에서 제조업의 다양성이 어떻게 변화되어 왔는지를 측정하여 분석하고, 그것이 광역경제의 성장성 및 안정성에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 분석하였다. 실증분석에서 얻은 주요 결과를 요약하면 첫째, 수도권의 제조업 구조가 가장 다양화되어 있는 반면 지방 경제권역에서는 편중도가 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 광역경제에서의 제조업 다양성은 광역경제 성장에 유의미한 (+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 제조업의 산업구조가 다양화될수록 해당 광역경제의 성장이 촉진된다는 것을 의미한다. 셋째, 광역경제에서의 제조업 다양성은 광역경제 안정에 (+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 광역경제에서는 제조업의 다양화가 해당지역에서의 고용기회 및 금융시장의 안정화에 도움을 준다는 것을 의미한다. 그렇지만 이 영향은 통계적 유의성이 낮게 나타났는데, 이는 고용 및 금융 불안정성은 국가전체의 경기변동과 관련된 단기적 현상이어서 개별 광역경제권의 제조업 다양성과의 관련성은 상대적으로 약하다는 것으로 이해될 수 있다.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;이상과 같은 실증분석 결과를 고려하면, 소수의 산업에 특화하도록 유도하는 지역발전정책은 정책의도와는 달리 지역경제 전반의 성장성을 약화시키고 불안정성을 증대시킬 가능성이 있다. 따라서 지역 산업구조를 특화시켜 나갈 것인지 아니면 다양화시켜 나갈 것인지에 대한 지역발전정책 방향을 모색하는 일은 이론적 논쟁보다는 통계자료에 기초한 실증분석에 기초하여 깊이있게 검토될 필요가 있으며, 각 지역경제는 그러한 연구에 자기 지역에 적합한 발전 방향을 검토하는 것이 바람직할 것이다.

&nbsp;&nbsp;This paper investigates how the diversity of industrial structure in 5 wide-economic zones (Seoul-Metropolitan zone, East-Southern zone, Kyungpook zone, West-Southern zone and Chungbuk zone) changes over time and empirically analyzes its effect on the economic growth and employment stability in those zones. The main results obtained from this study are as follows. First, the industrial structure of Seoul-Metropolitan zone is more diversified than that of other zones. Second, the diversity of industrial structure of each zone has the positive impact on the economic growth of the corresponding zone. This implies that more diversified industrial structure promotes the economic growth of the corresponding zone. Third, the diversity of industrial structure of each zone has the positive impact on the employment stability of the corresponding zone. This implies that the diversity of industrial structure of each zone contributes to the stability of employment and the financial market of the corresponding zone. But the statistical validity of this effect is low. Therefore, it can be interpreted that there is the relatively weak relationship between the diversity of industrial structure and the economic stability of each zone because the instability of employment and the financial market is the temporary phenomenon related to the nation-wide economic fluctuation.
