This study was conducted in 15 college students majoring in Korean dance to functional disturbance due to lack of sleep has been of interest to professor and dancers because it can result in bad mood and decreased performance.
Sleep loss or deprivation may cause a deterioration of several physiological functions such as hormonal unbalance. impaired coordination, poor mechanical effiency, and depressed motivation.
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of sleep deprivation and exercise modulation after sleep deprivation. Fifteen female subjects were randomly assigned into three groups: Group Ⅰ (n=5) which danced for 2hours during the day time after sleep deprivation. GroupⅡ(n=5) which was slept for ten hours during the clay time after sleep deprivation. GroupⅢ(n=5) which was control group. Next morning(2nd day) after sleep deprivation the subjects were performed maximal dance. For the asswssment of plasma hormones and cortisol levels, blood samples were taken at 18: 00(lst day). 09: 00(2nd day), 09: 00(3rd day) and after the cessation of maximal dance.
This research resulted as follows:
1) Epinephrine levels was in the sleep deprived groups(GⅠ, GⅡ) increased(p<.05)
2) Norepnephrine levels was in the sleep deprived groups(GⅠ) increased (p<.05)
3) Cortisol levels was in the groups(GⅡ. GⅢ) increased(p <.05)
4) Blood Lactate levels was in the sleep deprived grops(GⅠ, GⅡ) increased(p<.05) .
In conclusion, sleep deprivation may cause hormonal changes, and a proper exercise after sleep deprivation can reduce stress level by altering the level of stress hormone.
The priorities were tp prepare more effective physiological education program and educational materials for dancers, coaches and administrators, to prepare guidelines for the team physicians and coaches to follow for the physiological examinations of college students majoring in Korean dance.
