Global Patterns of M&A Activity and their Implications to Korea

&nbsp;&nbsp;According to the globalization of world economy, liberalization of capital mobility across borders and rapid economic of China, there has been a global trend of M&amp;A drive. However, Korean businesses have failed to pay close attention to the global trend of M&amp;A by not capitalizing on opportunities to invest abundant foreign capital in profit-making fields.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;There have been numerous restrictions on foreign investment by the Korean businesses for M&amp;A in outside markets of the country. There have also been restrictions against investment of private equity fund in global markets, which serves as a source of significant financing for corporate M&amp;As. Likewise, foreign investments by Korean financial institutions have been subject to governmental regulations. With few large players in the international M&amp;A market, performances of the korean financial institutions have been disappointing.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;The purpose of the study is to examine these situations Korean businesses face in the global M&amp;A market. This study looks at M&amp;A efforts among world businesses(IN-IN) everywhere in the global market during the past decade, cases of M&amp;A between foreign enterprises and domestic enterprises(OUT-IN). It takes a look not only at roughly 340,000 cases of M&amp;A by years, nations, regions and industries, but deal types of M&amp;As, financing of the M&amp;A deals and global enterprises who have played a significant role in the international M&amp;A market.
