News stories have many advantages as language teaching and learning materials. The purpose of this paper is to develop an English listening course framework which utilizes English news as the main source of the course and to introduce the actual course plans and classroom procedures. The study shows the effects of this new instruction using news samples as important materials on college students" English listening ability. The developed course was organized around a few important themes of news, and mainly consisted of vocabulary learning, listening to news clips, assignments, and student presentations. The students" English listening comprehension ability was measured at the beginning and at the end of the course to see the effect of the course, and the result was analyzed using matched t?test. It was found that the mean score of the post-test was significantly higher than that of the pre-test. The questionnaire was also administered to investigate the students" opinion about general course organization, classroom materials, assignments, and other factors. Generally, the students seemed to be satisfied with the course, but it was also found that some changes and improvements would be needed to make the course more effective.
