가족의 분리와 재결합의 과정에서 나타난 이주노동자 자녀들의 적응

Adjustment of Children of Migrant Workers in the Process of Family Separation and Reunion

  국경을 넘어 낯선 나라에서 새로운 삶의 기회를 찾기 위해 한국으로 이주해 온 이주노동자들은 어떤 형태로든 가족의 분리와 재결합의 과정을 겪을 수밖에 없다. 이 연구의 목적은 한국사회의 소수집단으로서의 이주노동자 가족들의 구체적인 삶의 경험에 관심을 가지고 이들의 다양성과 차이성에 대한 탐색적 연구를 시도하려는 것이다. 구체적으로 이 연구에서는 이주노동자 자녀들과의 심층면접을 통하여 부모의 이주노동으로 인하여 가족이 분리되고, 이후 다시 한국에서 부모와 재결합하여 생활하게 된 이주노동자 자녀들의 삶의 경험을 들어보는 것이다. 이주노동자 자녀들의 이야기를 통하여 한 가족의 구성원으로서의 정체성과 새로운 한국사회에서 적극적으로 자신의 삶에 의미를 찾아가는 이주노동자의 자녀들에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓히고자 한다.

  The purpose of this study was to deepen our understanding about the life experiences of children of migrant workers after they reunited with their parents or new family members in Korea. The participants of this study were 7 children of migrant workers from China and Mongolia. The study was conducted through in-depth interviews with them. The researcher began this study with the question of how we could change our negative perspectives on migrant workers as low-paid workers from poor countries into more positive ones in which we could view the migrant workers as one of the family members with rich family stories and as the active participants of rapidly changing multicultural Korean society.
