한국의 구전문학에 나타나는 여성들의 저항성 연구

A Study on Women’s Resistance in the Korean Folklore

  경제라는 하부영역에서 파생되는 사회구조의 변화는 가치관과 의식의 영역인 상부구조에서의 변화를 동반한다. 거시적 사회 변동과 교직되는 개인의 미시적 삶은 한국전쟁 이 후 최대의 국난으로 회자되던 IMF 긴급구제 기간을 겪어내는 동안 붕괴되던 가족제도와 성역할의 변화로 읽어낼 수 있다. 수 십 세기 동안 계속되어 온 여성들의 삶에 관한 전설은 20세기 말 한국이라는 사회적 맥락에서 어떤 전설을 : 남기고 있는가? 공선옥의 이야기처럼 삶의 무게에 짓눌려 ‘아이를 보육원에 남겨두고’ 돌아서는 피눈물 맺히게 모진 모성의 전설인가? 아니면 일이 주는 만큼의 성취감을 주지 못하던 결혼관계를 깨끗이 ‘정리’하고 ‘나는 나를 관리한다’는 고고하고도 도도한 백지연의 전설인가? 서구 페미니즘이 기존의 담론에서와 마찬가지로 영웅화시켜온 ‘성공한 여성들’에 의해 끊임없이 쏟아져 나오는 ‘출세기’와 ‘성공담’은 일상 속에서 눈에 잘 보이지 않는 저항을 계속 해 온 대다수의 여성들을 소외시킨다. 극단적인 형태의 자기희생이 미화되고 칭송 받던 시대를 살던 선조 여성들의 삶의 형태는 어떠하였으며, 그들의 행위로 재해석 될 수 있는 여성성이 오늘의 페미니즘 담론에 시사하는 바는 무엇인가? 이 글은 주류의 관점과 별 다를 바 없이 ‘영웅만들기’에 주력해온 페미니즘의 반성과 담론적 재전환을 촉구한다.

  The changes taking place in the realm of economic substructure accompany transformation in superstructure governing world-views and values. The dissolution of family and transformation of gender roles amid the IMF financial crisis, as an effective example, testified to the dynamic intersection of individual lives and the macro societal changes in the recent memory. What kind of legends on the women"s lives did the turbulent era have left behind? Is it the painful story of the mother who had to leave her child behind at the children"s protection center under the unbearable hardships? Or is it the glamours career woman who chose to manage her life by leaving the relatively less gratifying marriage? This paper argues that the dominant Western feminist discourse which glorifies the heroines alienates the majority of women who engage in the less conspicuous resistance of their own. It also asserts that feminism has been committing the same sin of glorifying the winners just like the mainstream story-telling. This paper studies the alternative modes of resistance engaged by the Korean women who survived the harshest times. This research calls for the modification of the feminist theorizing by widening its definition of female resistance.
