Makeup is part of culture that has started along with human history. There have been a variety of discourses about that as the times have changed. Cosmetics was initially created to protect people, and then that has continued to be closely related to human life as a way to satisfy their need for beauty. There could neither be any fixed model nor definition about beauty, and that keeps changing ceaselessly, defining itself in each age or generating a specific paradigm that is prevailing in a particular period of time. Human need for beauty sometimes drive social and political situations into a specific direction, triggering lots of disputes about itself.
When human face that consists of holes with white or black ground behind is separate from the head, that becomes a sort of si후 and symbol. And there are two different types of faces: one has social meaning, and the other pursues individuality. Face reveals various expressions through eyes and mouth. As a soul-containing vessel, there are expressions on human face. That could be defined only when there are expressions on it. In general, animals have the heads, but they scarcely own faces. In this sense, face is what unveils different and diverse emotions.
For modern people, makeup should not be a mere means of expressing their desire or of narcissism. Rather, that should serve as a new, creative energy by guaranteeing that people belong to a specific group whose members have something in common or by affecting others. The traditional standard of makeup doesn"t work any more. Makeup is now others-oriented, pursue anonymity and seek after new values and goal. Formal, methodological makeup already faded away, and it"s time to give up ourselves and find us in others according to changes in the times and the way people look at things. By being the same as others, we will be able to become a member of group and anonymous. As social animals, human beings have been affected by and affected others, but there is now something beyond interpersonal interaction: simultaneous interaction, namely being homogeneous. The concept of makeup is being modified, as the universal idea that being beautiful is good is replaced with new one that following a similar group image is beautiful.
