There is a fundamental difference on notions of colors between the East and the West. One of the East has been influenced by the idea of Um & Yang and the 5 elements, putting more emphasis on the symbolism of that idea and attaching the significance by it than on the beauty itself of colors in terms of color use.<BR> On the other hand, one of the West is based on its objective and systematic way of thinking, analyzed as various symbols and images from long-life experiences and the value of association.<BR> Red color is the oldest among those used on earth, regarded as a fashionable color for a long time, all time. This color is frequently preferred for fashion, accessories and make-up both in the East and the West, in the present and the past.<BR> This study is on differences on notions of colors between the East and the West and comparison and analysis on the symbolism of especially red color and its notions between the East and the West. Red color in the East means sun, fire, life, activity, health, vitality, hope and defeating ghost, while it means fire, worry, anger, danger, violence, positivity and sexual impulse, in the West.<BR> As you see in this study, notions on red color between the East and the West can not be said to be completely contrary to each other. but It has various associations and meanings according to nations, its people, regions and environments and should be used in accordance with it.
