The following points can be concluded from the hair-style of women described in the mural paintings in old tombs of Goguryeo. First, there is an obvious distinction in the hair style among the regions. The hair style of women described in the mural paintings in old tombs of Goguryeo shows difference as the region came to be divided into Pyeongyang and Gipan. In the meantime, the region of Gipan is adjacent to China and has strong culture of horse-riding nomads.
Second, the hair style varies depending on the time. On one hand, there were relatively less raised hair styles among women as the early Goguryeo was still unstable and did not have full power to exert control over the territory or centralize the ruling. On the other hand, it was proved that the mural paintings in the mid time of Goguryeo kingdom had many descriptions of raised hairs. By contrast, the region of Gipan was relatively less influenced by the different trends of times, compared to that region of Pyeongyang. This difference is assumed to stem from the fact that people of Goguryeo could accept the culture of China as they were open-minded while keeping the their farm culture, and the region of Gipan had their nomadic culture rarely affected by the change of time because of their distinct regional and geographical characters.
Third, the religious mentality seemed to have affected the hair style. The hair style might be a natural expression of their religious mentality. In consideration of that, it can be pointed out that the difference in the hair style that varies depending on the social status and position, is not necessarily an ideological instrument for the discrimination, but rather was a religious representation of that time.
