Study on fusion image in hairstyle -centering on the Retro-

&nbsp;&nbsp;The 21st century is an era of diversity. Increasingly, unique personalities and social structures become more diversified and modern people&quot;s mindsets value senses more. As a result, individual preference shifted to an individuality-based one that focuses on self-satisfaction. The shift from functional and physical fulfillment to senses and psychological satisfactions is also witnessed in garments, make-ups, accessories, hairstyles, and etc. Adding a special value requires transformation. Efforts to give more satisfactions are combining various factors to recreate and transform them. These phenomenon reflected social sentiment well. In this apocalyptic atmosphere, where people&quot;s values are confused, the response in the hairstyle to such complexity was the fusion image, the Retro phenomenon. Fusion reflects the traits of the contemporary era and is manifested in union and compromise with the era&quot;s atmosphere. Post-modernism that emerged in the 1960&quot;s and had society-wide impacts appeared in the fashion world from the 1980&quot;s influencing the Retro phenomenon. This study shows that the fusion culture that surfaced from the late 1990&quot;s contributed to the diversity and fusion of hair design. This study looks at the fusion image of hairstyle expressed as Retro in the late 1990&quot;s and analyzed the naturalism of neo hippies, nationalism, Avant garde of neo funks, and utilitarianism. The followings are the contemplations of the study.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;First, hairstyle that stems from the naturalism used the external style of the hippies in the 60&quot;s. The emergence of complex hairstyling products contributed to complementing customers&quot; weaknesses and making hairstyle more natural.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;Second, interests in the pureness of Asia, aboriginality, and the left out 3rd World also contributed to hair designs. Foil perms, rage perms, hair braids, feathers and leather bands were more of meeting the needs of pursuing simplicity following the emergence of the minimalism. It went beyond just reflecting upon and imitating the old to manifest designs tailored to the modern sense resulting in fusion of hairstyles.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;Third, the Avant garde style of neo funks, a trend of the Retro phenomenon is grotesque and strange that it is deemed a fashion ordinary people would be reluctant to follow. But, the young applied the external style and manifested it in a soft way. Since the late 90&quot;s, the coloring has been strong up to now. Experimental application of Avant garde style to the coloring was attempted to manifest unique characters of the youth with fusion hairstyle.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;Fourth, the utilitarian style well represented the individual characteristics and undermined the fixed mindset about hairstyle. Through the disconnected style, the voluminous, feel, and the rhythmic movement were represented. Hairstyle is easy to change and is used as a means to manifest characteristics and sense in diverse ways since it has a massive impact on the facial image. The tendency of modern people to go after liberty and the Avant garde trends have an important influence on hairstyles. Creativity of design and new future can be anticipated through the past. Unique and experimental hairstyle design study will continue and fusion image will further expand and develop into diversity through the Retro phenomenon.
