A study on the character make-up in Opera Carmen

&nbsp;&nbsp;Opera as a complimentary art takes a form of play that includes music, poem, play, painting as well as dancing. The role of make-up, costume, lights and arts in stage background is particularly important in opera in order to bring out adequate visual effects because of its large scale of the stage construction. Even though the singers and the music center the opera, only when the other components with certain characteristics play their roles, can the opera reach the level of perfection as a complimentary art.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;As discussed above, the characteristics of opera make-up show some differences to the other kinds of stage make-up. Therefore, this study explores the characteristics and the skills of opera make-up and discussesits application to the character make-up of heroes and heroines of the recently staged opera Carmen.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;The findings may have a limitation to generalize because they are based one time staged opera. However, considering the discussions came out of the real experience and the application was thoroughly based on the analysis of the characteristics of heroes and heroines of opera Carmen, the findings can be valuable data to analyze the make-up patterns of opera Carmen staged frequently each year.
