This study looked at changes of appearance through makeup; the changes are influenced by the feminists idea that has contributed to generating feministic ideas among women, dealing with womens interests, and it thus analyses the trend of makeup from a feministic viewpoint, which appeared in the fashion of the 1990s, pursuing new culture and harmony. The type of makeup image based on the idea of feminism intertwined with that of the social and cultural background of the 1990s is, first, based on the equations of nature=women and capitalism=man , which generates the idea that the problem of the ecosystem is caused by a man. This leads to eco-feminism which connects ecology with feminism, leading to certain makeup images in which exaggeration or artificiality is precluded, emphasizing mild, lovable images, particularly using a noticeably feminine pastel shade, pink. Second, based on radical feminism of the 1960s and further influenced by ultra-feminism which stresses an extreme femininity through sexy and gaudy appearance, makeup images of the 1990s provoke eroticism, show a provocative and glamorous sexy style, and overtly demonstrate feminine sexual attractiveness. Especially, the use of metallic gloss and pearl tone added the features of gaudiness and sexiness. Third, a rising trend of deconstruction in the postmodernism of the 1990s deforms a man-centered idea, seeking for a non-centered idea. Based on the deconstructive idea, feminists destroy any boundary between men and women; this allows them to visualize makeup as a combination of fine art techniques and formative elements, through an artistic concept, by denying fixed forms and demonstrating a creative world, rather than a partly modified world.
