As the metaphysical thought which emphasizes mind has been gradually declined, discourse of body which has been considered as a subculture is emerging rapidly on the basis of new confidence and value. The concern about body, which was raised from a problem of mental exhaustion, has been one of the most important discourses on culture and art since Nietzsche. The physical discourse has reminded socialized gender and sexual identification. As a result, a regression to body was caused by confusion in identification which was a phenomenon of end of the century. As one lost one"s ego and became the other, one started feeling that one could not ignore one"s body.
This paper covers the disintegration of dichotomous gender, discourse of body, meaning of make-up which has been formally accepted into the contemporary art activities and various works of artists which are applying beauty coordination which has become one of important means of expression. The contemporary artists" increased interest in make-up and beauty coordination might be related to rapid change of values and disintegration of sex identification. This phenomenon means that general ideas and taboos for body has been broken and sheer language of body has been recovered.
Judging from the patriarchal thoughts, the combination of art and female was sensuous and weak. Therefore, it had been logically depreciated. As art becomes a part of body, however, it has changed from patriarchal, malecentric and vertical art into horizontal one. The horizontal art could get out of imitative myth which had the malecentric thought and body could obtain an autonomic status.
Instead of reason, body has got placed in the center of art and esthetic experience has been accomplished through empirical sense of body. As females have become a paradigm of post-modernism and female and art have had the same meaning, the languages of art has had the languages of body. Eventually, what becomes a female and what expresses with body mean what makes new force and language. Even though the languages of body don"t express everything, their contents are abundant and ambiguous. Feminine languages have become the languages of potential life and body.
