A Study on the Stage Makeup for Men from the Joseon Dynasty Shown in Films

&nbsp;&nbsp;Film means reproduction in 2 dimensions or 3 dimensions, and the history of broadcasting developed with the introduction of MBC and TBC after establishment of KBS in 1961; and in 1980, merger and abolition of 3 broadcasting companies for diversification of broadcasting took place.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;In addition, in the midst of such changes, the arrival of the "color era" became a part of daily life and such advancements gradually created a framework for stage makeup with emergence of professional makeup artists.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;To introduce the genre of film makeup, there are basic broadcasting makeup, personality makeup, and special makeup; and of the types of film make up, there is makeup that is used for historical plays with the background of the Joseon Dynasty for which make up is done based on the character of the actor and that is referred to as film character makeup.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;Therefore, in this study, characteristics of film make up for historical plays were examined through broadcasting material, photographs, and professional literature, and makeup techniques that play significant roles in creating external characteristics of the character that viewers can identify with were studied.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;In particular, makeup for male characters in historical plays that show the character&quot;s identity, status, time period, and age were studied along with facial hair such as beard and hair style that influence the health condition and psychological condition of the characters, and through it, a conclusion was reached that when the character is a historical figure, image expression needs to be based on historical evidence, and if the character is not a historical figure, the professional makeup artist can create the image of the character based on the image from the script.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;On the other hand, as its limitation, comparison with modem pieces or personality make up techniques of movies was insufficient; and therefore, it is believed that further studies in more diwrse genres are needed.
