The purpose of this study was to investigate the interrelation between the historical consciousness and the recognition of the reality focused on two historical novels in Lee, Ju-hong"s narratives. The results can be summarizes as follows.<BR> Though 〈Kyungdaesung(경대승)〉 relies on historical evidences, it endows a protagonist with the turning point through fictional devices. He suggests harmonious competition and benevolent government as an alternative idea. On the other hand, 〈Mother(어머니)〉 suggested that the confrontation method for exploitation and suppression was not frustration but strong will and resistance. consciousness. But this novel did not stress the people"s struggle as historical progress.<BR> In 6-70"s, it was true that Lee suffers from the historical irony. Therefore, it was the core of Lee"s historical consciousness that History is injustice. This consciousness based on Lee"s historical novels and his understanding of the realty that not found a propelling subject of history and a vision of the future.
