Relationships between Body Image and Color Preferences for Summer T-Shirts among University Students

  This study was performed to investigate relationships between body image and color preferences for summer T-shirts among university students. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 268 university students in the Cheongju area, Korea. Frequency, descriptive analysis, factor analysis, x² and t-tests were used for data analysis. The results were as follows: Students" body image consisted of three factors: Appearance enhancement, weight control, physical attractiveness. There were significant gender differences in the three factors of body image. Female students were more highly interested in appearance enhancement and weight control of body image, but male students were more highly interested in physical attractiveness in their body image. Regardless of gender, most students owned white, red, blue and yellow color of summer T-shirts. The students with higher interests in appearance enhancement and physical attractiveness preferred expanding color T-shirts, like red, yellow and white color. Also, the more students had interests in appearance enhancement, the more they preferred vivid and strong color T-shirts for summer.
