Among theorists of postmodernism and/or poststructuralism, Derrida, Levinas, Lacan concern themselves mainly with the difference between self and other, whereas Deleuze stresses becoming oneness and union and go on to consider and describe the transphenomenal relation as a separate dimension. This paper starts with a revelation that the other is not just a person ignored by majority. All these scholars define the other as the exterior, or outside, of the self or subjectivity. This direction of studies from the separation to the (postmodern sense of) union can be developed with Oriental ideas because Oriental thought in general builds up the way of viewing the union of cosmetic differences. I place Laozi with Derrida, Levinas, Lacan, and Zhuangzi with Deleuze. I inquire into how we can develop the contemporary thought of critical theory with Chuangzi"s wisdom of the harmony of difference(s). I apply these ideas to literary reading and Viewing films -- the state in which the self and the other face to face with each other and become one -- which I would call the dimension of the Ethics of Direct Access. I briefly explain two Gothic novels and Matrix and discuss Citizen Kane and Butterfly Effect.
