A Short History of modern Korean Women"s jewelry

&nbsp;&nbsp;이 논문에서는 일제강점기부터 1990년대 전반경까지의 현대 한국 여성 장신구의 발전과정에 대해서 시대순으로 개괄하여 고찰하였다. 한국의 현대 여성 장신구는 귀금속장신구, 상업장신구, 예술장신구 등 크게 세 가지 계열로 나누어지는데, 귀금속장신구와 상업장신구가 일제강점기부터 발달해온 반면 예술장신구는 1970년대 후반부터 뒤늦게 발달하기 시작하였다.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;현대 여성 장신구는 서구식 장신구로서, 일제강점기부터 일부 계층을 중심으로 사용되기 시작했다. 이러한 현대적 장신구가 일반 여성의 일상생활에서 보편적으로 사용되기 시작하는 것은 1960년대 후반부터이다.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;전근대사회에서 여성 장신구는 신분에 따른 위세품으로서의 기능이 중요했으나, 현대사회에서는 착용자의 개성 표현과 소비의 대상으로 그 기능이 전환되어 일상생활의 한 부분으로 받아들여지게 되었다. 또한 경제와 사회가 안정된 1990년대 이후의 한국 현대 여성 장신구 양식에서는 한국적 전통의 측면이 강조된다.

&nbsp;&nbsp;This paper examined the development of modern Korean Women&quot;s jewelry from the colonial period to the early 1990&quot;s. Korean modern Women&quot;s jewelry can be divided into ①high quality jewelry, ②commercial jewelry, and ③art jewelry. While the first two jewelry had developed from the colonial time, art jewelry started to be made since the late 1970&quot;s.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;Modern Korean jewelry, in other words, western style jewelry were firstly used by modern girls since the colonial period. It was the late 1960&quot;s that such modern jewelry came to be widely used by ordinary women.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;Unlike traditional women&quot;s jewelry which were used as prestige goods, modern jewelry changed its role as the expression of personality and the object of consumption while gradually becoming a part of everyday life. Moreover, since the 1990&quot;s when Korean society and economy became quite developed, traditional Korean motifs and techniques became important parts of jewelry style for modern Korea women.
