A Study on the Korea-U.S. FTA Negotiation in Pharmaceutical Products and Medical Devices

  This study is concerned with the Korea-U.S. FTA negotiation in pharmaceutical products and medical devices. First of all, this study explores the main issues of the Korea-U.S. FTA negotiation in pharmaceutical products and medical devices - tariff concessions on pharmaceutical products and medical devices, positive listing system, pricing and reimbursement, extension of intellectual property right, and so on. Then this study analyzes the impacts on the domestic health-medical-pharmaceutical industry of the Korea-U.S. FTA negotiation. This study also provides the relevant policy responses for Korean government to maintain fair and transparent pricing and reimbursement policy as well as to keep national health insurance. Finally, it gives rise to suggestions for domestic health-medical-pharmaceutical industry to strengthen its competitiveness.
