This study was aimed at determining that video self-modeling could improve the demand on things and behaviors and the expression ability of denial and refusal in the communication ability of autistic children. The study was about 3 autistic children, aged 6 to 8, below 22-month linguistic proficiency, who can look at a natural object or picture to give a word name but cannot make spontaneous and correct performance on appropriate communicative interaction skills.<BR> The results of the video self-modeling applying to the children were as follows: First, the video self-modeling had some effects on the demand expressions of the targeted children and the effects last after the experiment. Second, it also had some influence on their denial and demand expressions and the effects last after the experiment. Third, it brought positive changes to the communicative intentions or attitudes of the targeted children, and increases their demanding intentions while reducing the denial frequencies. Therefore, the effects of the communication ability through the mediation resulted in the changes in overall forms of communicative expressions as well as the targeted expressions.<BR> The study concluded that the video self-modeling was proved to be an effective mediation that caused the quick and broad changes to the expressions of the demand and of the denial and refusal, and that improved the communication ability of the autistic children.
