Effects of In-plane Floor Slab Deformation on the Dynamic Behaviors of Building Structures with a Residental Environment

  Each municipality has proposed the new building regulations in terms of a residental environment. According to the new building regulations, various plan configurations of a building such as Y, T. U, E, etc. must be considered in a apartment complex. To investigate the effect of in-plane floor slab flexibility on the dynamic characteristics of building structures with Y-shaped plan efficiently, in this study, previous proposed analytical models for building structures by author are used. Since a building structure with wings is regraded as a combination of building structures with rectangular plan and their junction, the proposed analytical model is easily applicable to building structures with plans in the shape of letters Y, U, T, H, etc. A series of parametric studies is conducted with respect to three parameters: (a) aspect ratio of wings (b) the number of stories and (c) the difference in stiffness among lateral-load-resisting elements. The in-plane floor slab flexibility may bring about period elongation, a change in mode shapes, which affect the magnitude of total seismic base shear and the distribution of shear force among lateral load resisting elements. This phenomenon is more significant when a building structure is composed of frames and shear walls(FW-type) and aspect ratio of wings is high or the number of stories is not great.
