Asian Americans have been considered the permanent Other throughout the history of the United States. They have tried hard to adapt themselves to mainstream American society, resulting in identity confusion. In this context, Amy Tan advocates the value of Chinese American women, who have been marginalized and oppressed by a sexist and racist society. Tan"s first work, The Joy Luck Club will be read as a text of resistance of Asian American women. It will be examined how in the narrative form, language, and contents of this book, these women break their silence in a society ruled by white European Americans and resist the power structure of that society.
