The objective of this study is to examine of the continuity and discontinuity of Pak Tae-Won"s literature before and after going to North Korea. The novels which the study will discuss are six historical biographies published serially in 『Literature News』, Kye Myung San Chun Eun Bal Ga Oh Neu Nya(section 1, 2), and Gabo Nongmin Jun Jaeng(section 1, 2, 3). These novels are closely related to his works before going to North Korea. After going to North Korea, his literary style was mostly similar with that of before going to North Korea. He concentrated to translating Chinese classics and writing historical novels right after liberation. And, this trend was continued until after going to North Korea.
He published historical biographies about six historical people who are Yu-Shin Kim, Sang Kim, Gae-So-Moon Yeon, Je-Sang Park, and Jin-Chun Ku in 『Literature News』. Although these works was emphasizing patriotism and socialistic national consciousness, they had interest to art and individual ideology. Also, description pattern was same with that of his historial biographies written before going to North Korea. 「Kye Myung San Chun Eun Bal Ga Oh Neu Nya」 and 「Gabo Nongmin Jun Jaeng」 are on a line of continuity with 「Gun Sang」 written before going to North Korea. For example, the historical background, event, and people in 「Gun Sang」 are repeated in 「Kye Myung San Chun Eun Bal Ga Oh Neu Nya」. The various lifes of people are expressed better than the socialistic ideology. And, even though 「Gabo Nongmin Jun Jaeng」 expressed the socialistic ideology and class consciousness directly, it was also concerned about an individual everyday happening
In conclusion, after going to North Korea, Pak Tae-Won kept up his literature style and reflected the socialistic ideology of North Korea.
