While little has been explored about what English teacher professionalism entails, and how it can be pursued and developed throughout the career, demand for English teachers’ professional development is greater than ever in the changing society. The present case study aims to explore how an English teacher’s pedagogical content knowledge, one core feature comprising professional development can be conceptualized and extended through class observation and supervision. Data gathered by teacher journal, observation and supervision notes, and student interviews are categorized into five knowledge areas according to Shulman’s conceptualization: subject-matter, pedagogy, student, curriculum and social context. The areas that the teacher’s awareness is enhanced on are discussed with some implications for pre- and in-service English teacher education.
