A study on the device of integrating global and multicultural education into primary school English teaching

This study aims at surveying the influences of Globalization on the world education in general and developing a device of integrating elementary English teaching with global education. Multicultural education is one of the big features of global education. It concerns with the issues and problems of diverse ethnicity within a nation state. Our government defines multicultural education as an education which enlightens people to the worth of cultural diversity, the importance of valuing and improving cultural diversity and the formation of rapport between diverse cultural members. This study suggests three ways of integrating multiculture education into elementary English teaching. First, multicultural teaching strategies must be reflected in the English textbook which is being currently developed by the norms of the 7th reformative national English curriculum. Second, multicultural teaching strategies should be reflected in the English classroom activities. Third, multicultrual teaching strategies can be developed through using internatinal children s literature and multicultural literature of native English speakers countries. The use of the above strategies can predict the possibility of forming solidarity and rapport between Korean children and multicultural children, and we can also expect the children of both arena to grow and become desirable future world citizens.
