A Study on the Comparative Analysis of Efficiency : Busan"s Container Ports in Korea

  By using data development analysis(DEA) this research measures the efficiency of Busan"s container ports and their Malmquist productivity from 2006 to 2007. Under the assumption of CRS(constant returns to scale) and VRS(various returns to scale), container ports" ranking of efficiency are measured. Gamman container port is confirmed as a best-performed port in the various measurements. Important finding facts are as follows. 1)There is no consistent relationships between port size and efficiency. 2)Total factor productivity and scale efficiency are considerably enhanced from 2006 to 2007. 3)Busan container ports show the characteristics of IRS(increasing returns to scale) in the years of 2006 and 2008. In future research the more and better data will be expected to improve the understanding of Korean container ports" efficiency characteristics.
