Practical Tips for EFL Native Teachers and Their Employers in Korea

  EFL native teachers are constantly being recruited to work and this sometimes causes a number of social problems such as unqualified teachers, native teachers management, cross-cultural misunderstanding in Korea In this context, this study aims at exploring EFL native teachers" perceptions about living and working in South Korea, by means of a qualitative analysis of data collected from "Dave"s ESL Cafe"s Job Information Journal" over a period of 6 months (August 2006-January 2007). Various comments and remarks drawn from more than 300 school, college, university and language institute teachers regarding the working and living conditions of native English speakers teaching in South Korea were reviewed. A list of suggestions are developed for the job-seeking foreigner who wants to visit Korea to teach effectively and the study is also aimed to inform recruiters and employers of ways to increase job and lifestyle satisfaction for their foreign employees.
