This paper aims to investigate the relationship between the students" autonomous assessment results and the teacher"s summative assessment scores, and to explore to what extent a series of autonomous assessments can help the students" self-studies. For the data collection, the study employs 34 participants (16 in the autonomous assessment group and 18 in the comparison group) and uses a student and teacher discussion session, six web-based autonomous assessments, students" online journals, an online diagnostic assessment, and two online teacher"s summative assessments. Through the analysis, the paper suggests that the autonomous assessment result can be dissimilar from the teacher"s summative scores because the processes of evaluation and language learning involve many other variables including the assessed content, the teacher"s role, the students" attitudes, etc. The paper cautiously concludes that it may be difficult to expect that the autonomous assessment alone can help the students learn languages autonomously.
