〈Hard-boiled wonderland and the end of the world〉 is the first newly written feature-length novel of Haruki Murakami, published in 1985. This novel is a rewritten text based upon 〈A town and the uncertain wall〉. The early 1980s, which was the time period when the novel was written, was the time of new academism, popularization and commercialization of academical terms, and consumer culture. And Mr. Murakami"s work includes outstanding amounts of quotes from academical terms and proper nouns of commercial products.<BR> In this report, I analyzed the structure and the relation of the two worlds, 〈The end of the world〉 and 〈Hard-boiled wonderland〉, and inquire into the meaning of 〈A town and the uncertain wall〉 and the change in choice of the hero when escaping from 〈The end of the world〉 while evaluating the self-determination of the hero when the 〈Hard-boiled wonderland〉 becomes extinct. Also by comparing the novel to it"s other origin, 〈Wall-the crime of Mr. Karma〉 by Kobo Abe, I discussed Haruki Murakami"s borrowing from Kobo Abe"s work
