For Laser Welding of the fly wheel shaft which is made of TiA16V4 is required some preventive measures. These are minimization of deformation caused by heat input and preventing of oxidation of weld pool. To minimize the heat input, the laser with good beam quality is required in that weld with high aspect ratio is necessary. And also to prevent melt pool from oxidation, the weld bead should be purged with Ar gas until its temperature falls to around 200℃. In consideration of all requirements high power fiber laser(YRL-5000-S) was applied to the fly wheel shaft(TiA16V4) welding. The parameter combination for welding is summarized as follows. Power: 800W, speed: 5m/min, spot size: 260㎛, focus position: +1㎜, shield gas: Ar 251/min. With these conditions, good results were achieved whereby no negative phenomenon like spatter, under cut and crack were observed.
