This paper provides a comprehensive information about migrant workers in South Korea. The past and the present of Korean economy, the labour shortage situation, and the changes in government policies and regulations concerning migrant workers are explained first. Then, migrant workers’ current situation with regards to their status, nationality, and companies where they are employed at are discussed. Along with the discussion of issues and problems in management of migrant workers from the perspectives of employers and migrant workers, efforts of civic organizations that have raised issues concerning discrimination against migrant workers and the need to improve their working conditions are also discussed Lastly, after discussion of the effect of migrant workers on Korea, suggestions are made as to the ways in which Korea can better address and solve the issues and problems related to migrant workers.
