Goh, Gwang-Yoon. 2008. A Corpus-based Analysis of Function Words in Korean English Textbooks. English Language and Linguistics 26, 1-19. This study is a corpus-based analysis of textbook English and it attempts to evaluate the authenticity of the (English) language used in Korean English textbooks by examining the uses of high-frequency function words in the two corpora, KHERC (based on seven Korean high school English reading textbooks) and Frown Corpus. The results of this study indicate that the function words used in Korean English textbooks often do not fully represent their typical uses and distributions observed in natural English, thereby suggesting that the language of Korean high school English textbooks may not be sufficiently authentic although it might contain almost no grammatical errors.
