실제 특수학교에 장애 특성 외에 질환과 관련하여 다양하고 복잡한 요구를 지닌 희귀질환 중증장애 학생들이 재학하고 있으며, 특수교사로 하여금 이들에 대한 이해 및 건강관리 관련 지식과 기술이 요구된다. 이에 본 연구는 서울지역 특수학교에 재학하고 있는 희귀질환을 가진 중증장애학생에 대한 학교 내 지원 체계와 학생이 보이는 특성에 따른 교육적 고려 실태를 파악하고, 지원 방안을 탐색하기 위해 실시하였다. 이를 위해 서울시 소재 특수학교에 재학 중이며 보건복지부의 의료비지원을 받고 있는 희귀질환 16종의 희귀질환에 해당하는 중증장애학생을 담임하고 있는 특수교사를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 또한 관련 전문가 7인에게 개별 면담을 통해 협력적 지원 방안을 알아보았다. 연구결과에 따라 특수교사의 인식, 부모-교사-의료진 간 의사소통, 개별화교육계획(IEP) 내 건강관리, 학교 보건시스템과 학교생활 및 수업참여에 있어서 교육적 고려 실태와 더불어 협력적 지원 방안에 대해서도 함께 논의하였다.
Students with severe disabilities who have rare disease were registered at special schools in Seoul have more complex educational and medical needs than others who do not have such rare disease. Thus, special educators are requiring knowledge and information about their disease and health condition. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to examine the current support system in special education schools and educational considerations by special teacher and to suggest school-based cooperative support system for students with severe disabilities who have rare disease. In order to accomplish the purpose, a total of 21 special education teachers from 13 special schools in Seoul for the students with severe disabilities who have rare disease getting medical funds from the government unit like the Ministry of Health and Welfare filled out a survey questionnaire. In addition, a total of 7 related professionals were interviewed for cooperative support system. On the basis of results, special teacher's understanding, communication among parent, teachers and medical professionals, educational considerations and appropriate support system for students with severe disabilities who have rare disease were discussed.
