The aim of this squib is to explain an interesting extraction asymmetry observed with nominals and to show that the extraction restriction is closely related to the structure of nominals and possibility of the internal movement to an escape hatch in Spec of D. Following Fox & Pesetsky(2005), we suggest that the escape hatch effect is a consequence of cyclic linearization.
